Make up treat...

i
I have been trying to economise this year and avoid those whim purchases, as I tend to find I come to regret them, however I was unable to resist this beautiful eye shadow set from Chilli Pepper (via Boots). It was in their January sale so was half price at £4. Too tempting by far. I also bought their own range 17 false lashes - style mascara and have been very pleased with it so far. The fact it came with a free eyeshadow palette (my everyday browns and beiges) and a pound off the retail price was quite the sweetener.

My latest work in progress...

Im not really feeling sewing at the moment, even through my adopted craftroom is looking pretty nice so I have been concentrating on my embroidery projects.
This is my next piece a nice simple one; I will be embroidering a variety of hearts in different styles. It gives me an opportunity to use up the pinks in my embroidery box -as normally they are colours I dont tend to use- and it will be for a good cause as I intend selling/donating it for charity (a Breast cancer one). Of course I am not sure about the best way to go about selling it. So I shall probably be requesting your views very shortly.
It is progressing very nicely as a project so I should have some more photographs to share with you soon

Charity shop adventures..

had to call into one of the county towns today and used it as an opportunity to prowl the charity shops on the hunt for bargains. Amongst what I found was a beautiful handmade gold (very eighties early nineties jacket). I though ooh you would be amaze to go out in - Ill have you. Got to the counter and it was a half price day - £3 thank you very much. Ive got such a killer outfit planned in my head.
Will have to post a picture when the sun is out.

My last few weeks in ... Embroidery

So heres a little sample of what I have been creating over the last month/ to ring in the new year! I started with the birdcage piece. It was originally an idea for a hoopla swap, but my partner dropped out so I decided to continue on with my design regardless. I am pretty happy with how it has turned out. Especially the bluebird. I chose a bluebird to put into the cage because I wanted something different, but still colourful. I actually have lots of these pretty little things visiting my garden, so it wasnt even necessary to pore over an computer image to get the colours right.
The second piece was inspired by a guardian or independent magazine cover with christmas cookies covered in sprinkles on it. I decided to try and stitch them up, only to realise that I had made my 'biscuits' far too dainty to successfully embroider sprinkles on. I used the sprinkles inspiration in the background which is made from decreasing circles of french knots in a spectrum of green. I am very happy with this piece.
Finally my 1950s sewing pattern inspired piece. This proved a little more difficult, because I really struggle with faces and the vintage fabric meant that I had to block out the image a lot more than I would have liked. I still think it is striking though and I am happy with the neatness of the stitching particularly on the dresses. I would like to do a similar design, but perhaps incorporating some beading as I have seen beading techniques used very successfully by other embroiderers.
All these pieces can be found in my Etsy shop. Just in case you wanted to give one of them a loving home.

Rosalind Julia mark two...

This post marks my foray into running two blogs at the same time. I actually started blogging on Blogger and then moved over to Tumblr last year, however I follow so many blogs on blogger that I thought that there might be some sense in using both forms. I am also looking at creating more tutorials and I think Blogger will be more suitable for this purpose... Lets see how it goes....
